The CD marketing angle!

While I've said I don't plan on getting rich putting together this cd, it would be nice to sell it to those who like the finished product.

So how am I planning on doing that being an Indie Artist with no major label? Remember this project is starting from ground ZERO!

So, here's the process I have been working for the last year:
* Practice, practice, practice: Live, at home, in studio, you name it and I continue to work each and every song to get the most from it emotionally and technically and I'm sure there's much to learn in the next month of recording
 *  Photos: I don't have any real publicity photos so that will be changing Sept. 13th. I have a session set up with an excellent photgrapher.
* Video: No MTV/VH1 exposure is likely, but in this video intensive world, I thought it a smart idea to have it for the website(s) and whereever else I might get exposure. Meeting Sept. 16th.
* Merchandise: This is from simple business cards, to magnets, even bumper stickers. And I've been looking at vinyl banners for when I'm doing live performances. It's always good for people to know who you are if they're interested in the music. Oh yeah, I need a logo!
* Radio: I do plan on buying ad time on MY radio station. I have been doing a morning show here for over 15 years. Perhaps, some of my listeners would have some curiosity and maybe even invest in a CD from their local morning guy, if they liked it.
* Internet: This is the angle I've been working hardest. I have mutliple web sites up like my own: Michael Stone Music to other websites like: Mixposure, Soundclick, Songplanet, Isound, IAC Music, Artist Launch, CD Baby etc. Each will have a differing level of my committment financially depending on the traffic/listens that have been generated at each site. Each will be able to sell CD's, Digital CD downloads and individual song downloads. There are a number of others which I will promote as well. Also, several of these partnerships allows for me to be on sites like Itunes, Emusic, Amazon and other e-tailers. Plus give me access to thousands of brick and mortar record stores should someone come in and ask for the CD, it can be searched for throught their computer database.

Does any of this guarantee sales? HELL NO! The only thing that will "guarantee" anything is if people enjoy the music and feel moved by the creations and compelled to own it. Quite a daunting task considering the flood of media we all deal with every day. Daunting yes. A reason not to pursue it? HELL NO AGAIN!

So, I would love t hear any ideas, suggestions or glaring ommissions in my efforts. Maybe just maybe you can ride my musical train into the sunset.

After all this is Michael Stone's first studio release in 51 years!!!!  Image
