| Random Thoughts from Michael's Random Mind | |||||
If you build it, will they come? ![]() Through the course of my 35 years on the air, I've been involved in MANY charitable affairs. It's the nature of what we do in radio, whether it be a Blood Drive, Hurricane Relief, Cancer Society etc., I've done them all.
I've even been involved in the organizational aspects of many of these events, but never the sole organizer. That has changed. In September I release a CD of my music: http://MichaelStoneMusic.com. It will be a fully produced project and I was looking around for ways to promote it. I'll be doing that on the Internet through multiple websites that I run, and am affiliated with. But when it came to being a Singer-Songwriter who does nothing but solo material, doing the bar/cover scene was not an option. Then I got to thinking that I could utilize my notoriety (albeit small) due to my radio shows to do a Songwriter concert series and do some good at the same time. SO, off I went in the quest to create the Michael Stone Singer-Songwriter Series of Benefit concerts. Oh boy! Arranging for charities that would have an interest, additional singer-songwriters of a similar mind, along with potential sponsors and venues has proved to be an almost FULL TIME endeavour. Nonetheless, I will not be deterred. I, in fact am pleased that I now have my first venue signed on and will be doing a show in Greeley, Colorado September 9th. Donations will be accepted and there is a wine-cheese tasting and a portion of any CD sales of the artists involved will also go to the chosen charity. If interested more info will be here and on my website. So, what I'm discovering is that I can't do it alone and many people have indeed stepped forward and I appreciate their efforts. Much more is to be done, but I am now a driven man with a purpose and that's to do something beneficial and enjoy myself at the same time. BUT! This is where the question arises. "If you build it, will they come?" It's the great unknowable in any event, especially charitable, especially where the potential audience has NO IDEA and has never heard ANY of the original songs that they're about to hear. Wish us all luck and stay tuned. Take care Michael 2006-06-04 16:35:54 GMT

I take my art seriously, and sometimes I'm not comfortable when someone compares my work with someone elses. If you mind that, don't read any further. Anyway, as a channel changer from way back, I would stick with you to the last note! Your music reminds me a lot of Harry Chapin's work. That surely isn't a bad thing.

WOW! Thank you both for the kind words. HArry Chapin? You are too kind. I once was his warm up act prior to his passing YEARS ago. "Nice touch" and "sticking with it to the last note" really made my day. I'm uploading a new song right now called "Heaven Can Wait" Hope you enjoy!
