Mexico ![]() SO I'm back from my trip to Mexico. We had a great time.
Security was interesting, especially considering that the venture began within a few days of the latest terrorist plot in the UK. It is unblievable how people panic. They act like these threats aren't around us everyday. All of the sudden I received emails, calls, newspaper clippings on the terrorist threat, then the political upheaval in Mexico, even notes about how a headless body was found on the shores of Acapulco. It amazes me the level of ignornace in the general populace about the realities that surround us everyday. Have you read a Wahington DC or Houston newspaper lately? Why not? It's on the web. Murder, mayhem injustice etc. Do people really feel that I will be held hostage by events, unable to move and function? So, my first foray to America's southern neighbor was the adventure I had hoped. The Mexican people are warm and neighborly. The first thing that strikes me about Mexico, beyond the resort areas, is the piles of rubble and rubbish. Amazing! Tons of buildings begun, but never finished. And trash everywhere. The beaches could use a real cleaning up. Almost everyone speaks some English. A nice ting for the American unversed in Spanish. I WILL. however, be fluent in Spanish for my next rtip there. I was amazed how quickly I was picking up the language by reading EVERY sign and written word, out loud. Give me 30 days and I'd be speaking the language easily. Immerson is the way to go. I do have an advantage, having grown up around many lanhuages, no Spanish though, so it was truly a joy attempting to communicate without resorting to English, entirely. If I were to have one suggestion for the uninitiated to Mexico. Rent a car. That's what we did and it made for an amazing adventure. We had the ability to ge when and where we wanted. In that way we could give some of the backroads the wheel alignment challenge. I think the rental car lost! I'm sure I'll have more to write. But I will be going back to Mexico!
